Reasons We're So Passionate About KIDS ART?

WE ALL KNOW ART IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Art is both an intellectual and an emotional expression of an attitude or experience that is presented in a personal manner. Throughout Arts Inc. programs students will develop an understanding of the visual arts as both a learning area and a form of expression, particularly within the early years setting.

It is well documented and recognised that as young children develop, their idea of 'self' can be seen through their creations, and visual arts becomes a language for them to express themselves.

Our art courses progress from 3 year olds at Petite Picasso's, through to to Art Phase 1, Art Phase 2 , and Art Phase 3, onto portfolio work and college entry, allowing students to gain an understanding of visual arts and develop their own creativity. In particular, students will develop skills in art, making observations, developing ideas through visual inquiry and creating artworks using a range of mediums across various techniques.

I have offered a combination of classes this semester with:

1. IN-PERSON classes in the art studio Fremantle.

2. ZOOM SCHOOL ONLINE WEDNESDAY at home in your own creative space

3. HYBRID combination of students online & IN-PERSON. I teach from my studio with my class, and you join us from your home, if you're absent or sick you can catch up from wherever you may be.

This term (4), students are creating paintings of PET PORTRAITS.

The Art of Pet Portraiture

From first sketches to a finished canvas painting.

In this five-week portrait painting course, students will explore the art of capturing the character, personality and unique features of an animal they love. Working from a favourite past or present family pet, or even a future wishlist pet, students will develop their drawing and painting skills through observation, experimentation and creative expression.

We’ll begin with introductory sketches before exploring watercolour and pastel, gradually building confidence with tone, shape, colour, texture and composition. Students will then bring these elements together to create their own individual pet portrait on canvas, learning how to use colour, brushwork and artistic choices to express their subject’s personality.

Our five-week artistic journey

Week 1 October 31- Observe, Sketch & Discover

Explore facial proportions, shapes and features through introductory drawing exercises. Learn to observe carefully and identify the distinctive details that make each animal unique.

Week 2 November 7- Watercolour Explorations

Experiment with transparent washes, colour mixing, light and shadow. Discover how tone and colour can describe form, fur, feathers and facial features.

Week 3 November 14 - Pastel, Texture & Expression

Explore mark-making, layering and tactile textures using pastels. Investigate how eyes, ears, patterns and expressive details help communicate an animal’s character.

Week 4 November 21 - Composition & Canvas Preparation

Plan the final portrait, considering placement, scale, background, shape and colour relationships. Transfer the drawing to canvas and begin painting, building layers and establishing the main tones.

Week 5 November 28 - Paint, Refine & Celebrate

Develop the finished canvas using thoughtful brushwork, colour, contrast and texture. Refine the details that bring each pet to life and celebrate each student’s unique artistic interpretation.

What students will learn:

● The elements of art: tone, shape, colour and texture.

● Composition, proportion and observation.

● Watercolour, pastel and acrylic painting techniques.

● How to translate a photograph into an expressive artwork.

● How to communicate personality, mood and character through art.

What to bring:

Please bring one or more high-resolution, good-quality photographs of your chosen pet. Clear images with good lighting, sharp facial details and visible eyes are ideal. Multiple reference photos can be helpful for understanding markings, colours and personality.

Your subject can be a beloved family or grandparent’s pet from the past, a companion you have today, or an animal you dream of owning one day.

The goal: to create a personal, expressive colourful portrait that celebrates the character of an animal and the special connection we feel with it.

All artistic abilities are welcome. Students will be encouraged to experiment with colour, develop their individual style and enjoy the process of turning observation into whimsical portrait art.

Class sizes are small and students all receive individual guidance and instruction.
